The negative attitudes towards the people on the basis of race, color, ethnicity, religion, country or gender is said to be a prejudiced attitude. It is the prejudgement that the person develops on the basis of the above parameters. The prejudgements are formed on the basis of the prior experiences of the person with them. Prejudices about color, gender, race, ethnicity, country are among the major which poison the mind of the people. They judge other people on such basis and builds conclusion accordingly.
Discrimination among the people which is based on the color of the skin is termed as color prejudice. This is one of the barriers which hampers the humanity among the people. People face a lot of discrimination because of their skin color in every sector of society. The fair skin people are given much importance and opportunities in comparison to the dark-skinned people. India stands on the verge of being one of the color prejudiced countries where color, caste, gender and status of the person are the parameters to judge people. For upper caste people with fair skin, it becomes much easier to grab opportunities and stand before people. On the other hand, the dark skin people become of the most dominated people in the society. They face a lot of discrimination in every field irrespective of their excellence.
I don’t think the color prejudice problem in our country exists. There are various reasons behind it. The first reason is our Constitution. It ensures complete freedom to its citizens irrespective of color, class, religion, etc. If anyone were to discriminate against anyone on the basis of color, that person could be in trouble legally.
Secondly, the people in our country our predominantly swarthy. In the south, people predominantly are of dark complexion. This dark complexion is common. So people don’t discriminate or have prejudices against dark complexion.
Another very potent reason is the religious reason. Most of God incarnations such as Shiva, Rama, Krishna, Vishnu, etc. were dark complexioned. So, dark color is considered auspicious.
So, in conclusion it can be said there is no color prejudice in our country
There is no lawful color prejudice in India. Indian constitution guarantees equal rights to every citizen, irrespective of their color, religion or any other demographic distinction. Having said this, it is essential to note that the society is not free from prejudices.
