Yes it's obvious that Tricki was a pampered dog. His rich mistress, Mrs Pumphrey is so concerned about her dog that she gives him all her love and loads and loads of junk food to eat, and as it is known that too much junk and no exercise makes us dull and obese. And so did this happen to Tricki.

She believes that her little dog is suffering from malnutrition so she gives him some little extras between meals to build him up, some malt and cod-liver oil and a bowl of Horlicks at night to make him sleep.
