I think it's good that he left because according to him, one Direction's music wasn't of his type. He was more into R&B. He didn't want to be in the band from the beginning and after the contract was over he wanted to pursue a solo career. So I think it's good that he left cause listening to your heart comes before anything else.
We all miss one direction and Zayn malik but they too have their own choices and interests and it's natural that they're follow their hearts.
