Yes, Dr Herriot seems to be duty bound who values others emotions than his personal interest. This can be understood by the way he handles the case of Triki, the pet of Mrs Pumphery.

He quite well knows what was wrong with Triki. Despite his many instructions to Mrs Pumphery, she still kept feeding her pet with an excess of food. So Dr Herriot decided to handle the situation in an intelligent way. He also didn’t want to be harsh and hurt Mrs Pumphery.

Rather, he carefully dealt with her while he wanted to save Triki’s life. He only slowly and tactfully made Mrs Pumphery understand that Triki needs to be taken care of by him for a while. He did the right thing to save Triki’s life.
