Doctors play important roles in our lives, no matter our ages, cultural backgrounds or medical needs. They ask us to do what is right for our health and the health of our loved ones. They help us when we are hurt or have fallen ill. They comfort us when we are scared and not at our best. And most importantly, doctors talk with us about how we can preserve our most valuable resource – our good health.

The doctors I work closely with at Geisinger Health System overwhelmingly tell me they chose this profession to help people, to care for you, and to partner with you in providing your healthcare. Doctors do amazing things – saving and improving lives – but to them, it’s all about caring. That’s why I ask everyone to join me in recognizing doctors on the celebration of National Doctors’ Day on March 30.

It’s a long road to become a doctor, but the many years of intensive education, training, and continuing education to understand the latest findings in medical science benefit us all. Special people answer this call and take on the tremendous responsibility that goes with it, and the truth is we need more of them to meet the growing health needs of our communities.

This Doctors’ Day, please be sure to thank your doctors for everything they do for you and your families. And if you know young people who are thinking about a career in healthcare, please encourage them to heed the call. The future will be healthier for it.
