English was introduced in India by the British, who ruled this country collectively for about two hundred years under the British East India Company and the Crown. However, today, India has the biggest English speaking population among countries of the world.
Studying English language and literature in School, College and University opens up several avenues in deciding on career options. One can become a teacher or a professor, a copywriter in an advertising agency, join the IT industry etc. In the IT industry one can target the BPO sector, become a transcriptionist, content writer and so on.
As one can see above, there are many career options available to students of English, but one must hone one's writing skills by widening the horizon of study with extensive reading outside of the course curriculum.
