★ Answer:-

No, an electric motor doesn't depends on relative motion of magnet and current carrying wire.

★ Explanation:-

In a motor the magnetic poles are fixed at a particular point and current carrying coil revolves by the action of current. Actually it doesn't depends on any motion.

The phenomena of relative motion will affect the electromagnetic induction in a generator but not in motor.

Understand the working of motor:-

An electric motor works on the principal of converting electrical energy into mechanical energy. It consists of a coil, magnet, split rings, brushes and a source of current.

The coil insulated with copper wire is fixed between poles of magnet under a magnetic field in a such a way that these both are perpendicular to each other.

The current passes through the coil and is reversed after every half revolution by the help of commutor ( a form of split ring). The reversing direction of current also reverses the direction of force acting on conductor. The force acting on one side of coil is in downwards direction whereas opposite in other side. This difference in force helps in the revolution of coil which will further do the mechanical work.

The direction of the force acting on the coil can be obtained by applying Fleming's left hand rule.

Let's understand this rule:-

According to this rule, strech your thumb, forefinger and middle finger in such a way that these are mutually perpendicular to each other and if the first finger (forefinger) points in the direction of magnetic field, middle finger points in the direction of current then your thumb will give you the direction of motion or force. This is Fleming's left hand rule.

How to increase the efficiency of motor?

We can increase the efficiency of motor by following ways:

• By increasing current in the coil.

• By increasing number of turns of copper wire.

• By using an electromagnetic instead of permanent magnet.

• By placing a soft iron core in the coil, which will further increase the magnetic field.
