If we look the structure of but-1,3-diyne, we have two triple bond. So, the pz orbital on carbon 2 can overlap with carbon 3. The resulting form will have the three double bond with positive and negative charges on either end.

The structure resulting from resonance will have charge separation thus they won't be stable as compared to the neutral species.
