Answer:

a) sodium and lithium

b) yes

c) sodium

Explanation:

a) we found out the metals when we count the electrons present in each shell and as sodium's electronic configuration is 2,8,1 so element X is sodium and similarly Y is lithium

b) they both belong to group 1 of alkali metals of periodic table

c) X is more electropositive as when we go down a group elecropositivity increases as no of shells increase resulting in lower attraction between the nucleus and the outermost shell. so the valence electrons are less attracted to the nucleus we go down a group and atom loses electrons more readily.
