Once you are baptised ,you become a new being in Christ.Your old self has been washed away In baptism ,You are immersed and getting up in water. This symbolises the DEATH,BURIAL AMD RESURRECTION of Jesus Christ.

So Yes ,Baptism truly washes away your sins.

But is your choice as to whether sin or not after baptism.

So much, in fact, that when the message of the risen Christ was first preached (in Acts 2) there was no distinction between baptism and faith.
