Other metals such as bronze and copper also undergo oxidation, leading to corrosion. So, the answer to the question is NO, copper does not rust

No it won’t rust. Rust is iron oxide and only appears on metal alloys containing iron. Copper will corrode as it weathers forming a green layer of tarnished copper. The copper is reacting with oxygen, carbon dioxide, and water in the air. The green coating is called patina or verdigris. In the absence of water, when copper clad cookware is heated on the stove, it turns brown with a thin layer of copper oxide. Copper oxide actually is black but it is created in such a thin layer, the copper color shows through causing various hues of brown to be visible.
