Yes, it does a bit.

Eating something is more reliable.

When you are in a Social Situation and feeling anxious then you can put a gum or toffee, if appropriate.

Why it works?
1. Eating is a Behavior linked to Safety and Comfort

2. It activates the Nervous System which works to relax our MIND.
We are hard wired to be relaxed when we eat. This is due to evolutionary reasons as when we used to hunt and find our meal, we used to be pretty much well-off and rewarded by our Brain. Hence, the soothness.

Further, we can't be in two states eg worry and peacefulness at the same time.


So, keep something small to eat with you when you are worrying situation.
