An Israeli, who  turns 18 is being inducted into the military. Men serve three years and women for one and half year. Both men or women are signed for an additional year, for the privilege of attending the Officers’ Training School. Some men and women remain in service as a vocation. If a person did not serve as everyone else, he would be boycotted from society. This would lead to his or her  chances of getting a job very difficult which in turn would make life miserable. The exceptions  to this arrangement were the ultra-orthodox Haredi Jews who do not serve . Men  would study at religious seminaries and women were to be  married off at a very early age and raise kids. In the Jewish state, this exemption became an entitlement, causing a rift between the secular and religious sectors.
