The minimum voltage at which Silicon controlled rectifier(SCR) starts conducting is known as forward break over voltage.

(Silicon controlled rectifier) SCR does not conduct up to a certain value of forward current initially. Until it reaches certain voltage, the current is blocked. This is termed as forward blocking region.

If gate is supplied by a positive current then forward break over voltage occurs earlier than no gate current condition. By increasing the gate current, the forward break over voltage occurs for lower values of forward voltage.

Effects of gate current on forward voltage break:

• Forward break over voltage is reduced when gate current is provided. 

• If the gate is provided by a positive current then forward break over voltage occurs earlier than no gate current condition.
