Does holding of elections make a country democracy?

• Yes it does.For example ,north korea is allowed to officially name their country "democratic people's republic of korea".the official name is justified solely upon the fact that NK does hold regular elections for selecting official to be seated at the national assembly out of a choice between four political parties.

But generally democracy is taken to mean liberal democracy which excludes a lot of countries which hold elections but are nonetheless authoritarain dictatorship China, Russia ,Iran ,North Korea ...etc
