NaOHNaOH or sodium hydroxide is a strong base. In water, it dissociates as Na+Na+ & OH−OH− ions.
NaOH(s)−→−H2ONa+(aq)+OH−(aq)NaOH(s)→H2ONa(aq)++OH(aq)−
The release of OH−OH− ions in its aqueous solution is the reason for its basic nature.
