Not necessarily only to a small extent you see if people want the government to be in check they need it to show it in votes and most of the well educated and high class also the students in the field of engineering don't vote. Also the media don't show the real face of the people who really want the government in check. If you notice a small thing in every news channel there would be a guy who roast both sides that is ruling party and opposition but he makes sure that he tells people about their achievements. No one is daring enough free enough you need to follow rules at the least to a certain extent. Otherwise the anti party media would become late anti party media or once so called anti party media.
The media influence people influence certain products come from the advertisement and retailers and also the fact checkers.
If you see there is no need of debate in media in the first place everyone knows who is wrong if you can just tell the fact but the media doesn't give the fact straight away.
Today's parties and media are like brothers and sisters or even friends you see Person A thrash talks B and tells it to C. C then tells it to D and D asks B and B asks why do you trash talked me and then A tells because I am your brother and brothers tells the cons even if he has thousands pros among his others brothers and emotional songs rolling(Yeah this four guys are brothers).
