Hey there !

Sodium metal is obtained from sea water called Brine solution. Here the sea water is first purified from solid impurities and later the sodium chloride present is allowed to evaporate to get crystals of Sodium chloride.

The crystals of Sodium Chloride can also be obtained by electrolysis of Brine solution which gives Sodium Chloride as a product.

Refining is the process of obtaining pure metal. Electrolysis is a process of refining metals. Since the sodium chloride is obtained from electrolysis, it is already in it's purest form. Hence it need nit be refined again.

Hope my answer helped !

krit02: Thnx rajk dear vry much
rajk123654987: Welcome :)
krit02: So it means that only less reactive metals are refined by process of electrolytic refining
rajk123654987: Yes
krit02: Ok dear

Answer:

  • Sodium is extracted by electrolytic reduction of molten sodium chloride. On passing electricity through molten sodium chloride, decomposition occurs and sodium metal and chlorine gas are formed. ... The cathode produces electrons to reduce sodium ions to sodium atoms (or sodium metal) by acting as reducing agent.
