does steel attract magnets?

Deil1: steel is made up of carbon and iron thus due to carbon it doesn't attract

No. Not all steel is attracted to magnets as-is.

All steel will show varying degrees of ferromagnetism, meaning almost all steels can be magnetized with some work. Once magnetized, a steel will be attracted to (or repelled from) a magnet if the magnet is strong enough.
