No, the atomic number of an element does not change when its atom become ions.
This is because atomic number of an element is the no. of proton and we know that an atom form ions by either losing or gaining electron and the overall charge on an ions is the charge of extra proton or electron in an ion.
So the no. of proton in an atom remain same whether it form positive or negative ions.

Answer:
Explanation:
Atomic number = Total number of protons in the nucleus. When an atom forms an ion by loss or gain of electrons, the number of electrons revolving around the nucleus changes. But the total number of protons remains the same. Hence, the atomic number of the element does not changes when it forms ion.
