The absorption of water by root mainly takes place by the process of osmosis. if the concentration of the root hair becomes less than the surrounding then Water will move out of the root hair to the surrounding by the process of osmosis.

A root hairs contain cell sap of a higher concentration than that of the surroundings soil water. That means there is less water potential inside the cell and high water potential in the soil. This difference sets off osmosis and outside water diffuses into the root hair.
