Does the distance of the needle from the magnet affecting the deflection? why?​

ya the magnet affects the deflection because when the needle is free to move, then how will it show us the way we wanna get at....so its imp. that magnet should be little near the needle so that needle is balanced by that and take us towards the north....

In other words, each magnetic field line is directed from the north pole of a magnet to its south pole. Each field line, indicates, at every point on it, the direction of the magnetic force that would act on a north pole if it were placed at that point.
