Yes, and in some areas, it is still called Grand Truck Road. In some stretches, it has been given other names but to old timers, it is still GT Road.

Sher Shah Suri, the great Indian ruler constructed the grand trunk road in India which covers nearly 2700 km in the 16th century AD. This road originates from Kabul, Afghanistan.
Old National Highway 2 composes a significant division of the traditional Grand Trunk Road along with traditional NH 91 and former NH 1 in India. The highway connects Delhi with Kolkata as well as significant towns such as Varanasi, Dhanbad, Faridabad, Mathura, Agra, Kanpur, Allahabad, Asansol, Durgapur, and Bardhaman.
