Dear friend,
The iron key gets coated with a shiny brown colour because of rusting.
EXPLANATION -
Rusting is a process of the oxidation of only Iron (Fe) in presence of moisture and oxygen in the atmospheric air. The Iron gets converted to Iron (III) oxide [Fe2O3] on rusting. This is a chemical reaction which takes place with Iron when it kept in contact with the atmospheric air and small amount of heat is generated. This process is known as Rusting.
REACTION -
4Fe + 3O2 + xH2O => 2Fe2O3•xH2O
Hope it helps !!!
