Does the magnet with iron filings sticking to it look like a bar magnet ?

No. When iron filings stick to a magnet, most of them stick to the poles, because they have the strongest attracting power in the whole magnet. The middle zone has no attracting power, it's nearly 0. So it is called neutral zone of the magnet.

In the cases of all magnets, the same thing happens. Hope it helps you.
