does the occurence of diversity of animals on earth suggest their diverse ancestry? discuss this in the light of evolution.
Answers
Animals existing today show a vast diversity in their structures so, they must be having diverse ancestry too, since common ancestry greatly limits the extent of diversity. e.g. all birds are closely related, they have common ancestors, but birds and bate are also related because they have analogous organ, i.e. their wings.
Therefore, if we classify species according to evolutionary relationship, we can build up small groups of species with ‘ recent common ancestors, then super-groups of these groups with most distinct common ancestors and so on. Likewise, we can keep going backward in this classification to come to a single species at the very beginning of evolutionary time.
Thus, it can be said that occurrence of animals on Earth suggests their diverse ancestry also.
