Does the refractive index vary with colour of light

The refractive index of materialsvaries with the wavelength (and frequency) of light. This is called dispersion and causes prisms and rainbows to divide white light into its constituent spectral colors. ... For visible light normal dispersion means that the refractive index is higher for blue light than for red.

YES it does. For a colour of light with less wavelength the refractive index is more. For e.g. in red and violet light, the refractive index of violet is more since it has less wavelength than that of red.

In simple words refractive index is inversely proportional to the colour i.e. the wavelength of light.

Hope this helps :)
