let take as an example of water...as we supply heat to the water, it temp. increases and reaches to the boiling pt. of the water at a particular pressure.

please note:

that the boiling point is the fxn of pressure...

now, the heat which is being supplied starts to get used up in weakening of the intermolecular forces and so the temp. of water becomes constant. and when the water is completely converted into steam, the temp. again start rising...
