does this mean that if the mean is 16..the numbers before 16 and after 16 ( no of terms ) are equal??

first mean
mean= 7+9+10+11+13/5

= 50/5= 10
second mean
mean = 18+19+20+21+32/5
=110/5=22
total mean = 7+8+10+11+13+18+19+20+21+32/10
= 160/10= 16

mean = (7+9+10+11+13+18+19+20+21+32)/10 = 160/10 = 16

So mean = 16

And it is just a coincidence that number of terms more than 16 is same as the number of terms less than 16.

So it does not mean what you are saying in the question.

For example: replace 32 with 132.

Now the number of terms is still 10.

but mean = (7+9+10+11+13+18+19+20+21+132)/10 = 260/10 = 26

Now, is the number of terms more than 26 equal to number of terms less than 26? No.

So mean is not the middle of the data points.

Actually it is MEDIAN which falls in the middle of the data points.
