Yes transportation serves a very useful function in plant....

Vascular tissues are responsible for the transportation of materials in a plant...

Xylem and Phloem are the main parts of vascular tissues....

Xylem transports water from the tip of roots to the leaf while Phloem transports prepared food solution to all parts of the body....

If these vascular tissues were not present...then the plant would not got the water for making food as well as the leaf would not be able to transport food to different ares of the plant...

Thus transportation plays an important role in a plant...

(i) The excess water absorbed by the root system of the plants lost in the form of water vapour to their surroundings by the process of transpiration.

(ii) It also in transport of absorbed water to the leaves of plants from the roots for photosynthesis and helping the plants keeping erect.

(iii) It also produces cooling effect for the plants.
