It becomes less dense as ice floats on water.

janhavi728: but then some people say that ice floats on water bcoz of more density. I mean which explanation is actually right?

Answer:

water constitute of H2O molecule.

In liquid form very less air is inside water whereas in solid form H2O forms cage like structure in which air is trapped making it less dense than water.
