A plastic coating gives metals a thick, wear resistant finish that excludes water and air from the surface of the metal and so prevents corrosion.
Plastic coating is applied mainly by:
1 ) hot dip coating in a fluidised bed of polymer powder
2) hot dip coating a product in a vinyl Plastisol
3) spraying polymer powder onto a heated product

Yes, plastic coating is done nowadays.
They coat a layer of plastic over metals to prevent from the contact of air and water that is resistant towards corrosion. And it's done using the hot dip method.
Hope dis helps you
