Answer:

Making choices without a set of values is like trying to find directions without a map. Values serve as a moral compass that tell us what to do when we have a moral obligation to make. In other words, values influence our behaviour and serve as a point of reference for evaluating what course of action to take. There are a lot of values we can draw from the bible, but these are a few I have found to be important;

1. Be honest, do not lie. Not only does telling the truth build stronger relationships, it also allows others to trust us. When we are trustworthy we create more opportunities for others and ourselves.

2. Be courageous at all times. Courage allows us to identify the things we fear the most, and doing them. It’s about allowing ourselves to face life’s obstacles without letting fear get in the way.

3. Act compassionately towards others. When we are compassionate, we are able to sympathise with the misfortunes of others. This not only gives us a sense of closeness with them but allows others to offer a hand when we are the ones in need.

4. Forgive others. When we forgive, we acknowledge that we have been wronged and allow ourselves to extend our hands to the people that have wronged us. This frees us from resentment and bitterness.

5. Do not judge others. The mistakes we see, are often the ones we are capable of making. Often the people we judge are the ones we know the least. Rather than judging others, we need to allow ourselves to know people’s life experiences and motives.

6. Avoid jealousy. The problem with jealousy is that we become so focused on the achievements and successes of others and we forget to be thankful for our own. Envy is the first step that leads to nothing but unhappiness.

7. Do not intentionally hurt others.When we intentionally determine to hurt others, we set up a trap for ourselves. Whoever digs a pit for others will fall into it. Whoever rolls a stone, the same stone will come rolling on him.

8. Do not take shortcuts. Success does not come easy. When we try to cut corners, we often find ourselves back where we began, having hurt others and wasted our time and resources.
