Donald is putting rock in his front yard. He’s considering 2 different designs. Design A uses 18 cubic feet of red rock and 1 cubic yard of white rock. Design B uses 12 cubic feet of red rock and 16 cubic feet of white rock. Which design has a larger ratio of red rock to whigte rock? Show your work.

1 white                                    16 white

ratio= 18:1                             ratio= 12:16

                                             simplifies to

                                              3:4 because

                                              12 divided by 4 is 3 and 16 divided by 4 is 4
