You can relate this to 'biting the hand that feeds you'.
For example:
Geeta keeps criticising her job and doesn't respect it and is always complaining. But she doesn't realize that it is because of that job that she is financially secure. One day her boss overhears her talking bad about the job and fired her. So she cut the branch she was sitting on.
