double displacement reaction occurs when parts of two ionic compound are exchanged , making two new compounds . A characteristics of double displacement reaction is that there are two compounds as reactant and two compounds as product . An example - CuCl2 + 2 AgNO 3 => (CuNO3 )2 + 2 AgCl .
