Both men and women can pass the genetic translocation for Down syndrome on to their children. Having had one child with Down syndrome. Parents who have one child with Down syndrome and parents who have a translocation themselves are at an increased risk of having another child with Down syndrome.

Down Syndrome is a Genetic Disorder associated with the somatic chromosome number 21. The main defect is trisomy of 21st chromosome.

Usually in normal conditions we have two chromosome number 21. But in case of Down Syndrome , we have 3 such chromosome leading to genetic abnormalities.

We can easily understand that this genetic disorder is not associated with the sex chromosome (i.e. X and Y chromosomes are not involved )

So we can say that Down Syndrome occurs in Both the sexes ( irrespective of males or females).
