Down syndrome is a result of faulty cell division that leads to three copies of the 21st chromosome and is therefore, also referred to as trisomy 21 ( there are two other much rarer types known as Translocation Down syndrome and Mosaic Down syndrome)

Symptoms:

• distinct facial appearance(flat noses and small ears)
• intellectual disability (mild to moderate issues with thinking, reasoning, and understanding)
• developmental delays in child
• thyroid or heart disease
• trouble hearing and seeing

Treatment:

• Physical therapy( includes activities and exercises that help build motor skills, increase muscle strength, and improve posture and balance which affected individuals might lack)
• Speech-language therapy (help children with Down syndrome improve their communication skills and use language more effectively)
• Emotional and behavioral therapies ( to counteract things like ADHD and other mental health issues children with this syndrome might have)
