By all counts the concept of “PAYING A CONSIDERATION/or anything which can be measured in monetary terms FOR MARRYING A WOMAN IS A CURSE”
There is no doubt in that.
Today, because of this dowry system many are facing multiple kinds of issues in life. Husbands abusing their wife’s for dowry, In-laws abusing their daughter… But its not just husbands and their family who is behind it.. because of such a system existing in our society there are women are cry “dowry abuse” and black mail their husbands and their in-laws into submission or whatever they wish for.
Today the groom’s family considers dowry as their birthright! something to which they are entitled to no matter what! Some tie up dowry along with their ego and bravado ! More you get as dowry, that much ego boost you get (translated into status in society)
The whole concept of marriage has been ruined and all thanks goes to DOWRY system. There was a time when in our culture marriage was considered as a pure thing, it was a festival where two individuals who had accepted each other begin their new lives together as ONE, it was where two different families became one BIGGER family.
Now, marriage is a deal or in better words a contract! Purely monetary thing. And marriage is viewed as such a contract/business deal. And as the law states for any contract to be valid there must be 6 elements in it and they are (1) offer; (2) acceptance; (3) consideration; (4) mutuality of obligation; (5) competency and capacity; and, in certain circumstances, (6) a written instrument. I mean what more do I have to say?
