The government school in Rameshwaram where former President APJ Abdul Kalam completed his elementary schooling is without electricity supply.
As summer approaches and temperature soars in Tamil Nadu, this is set to cause hardships to the students and teachers.
At present, there are nearly 200 students enrolled in this school.
Recently, the power department decided to suspend electricity supply after the school failed to pay bills for the past 18 months.
The school has to pay power bills to the tune of ? 10,603.
The department concerned had issued two warnings and asked the school to pay the bills. However, when the school failed to make the payment, officials suspended power supply.
The district chief education officer has held talks with the power department to find a solution. During the talks, the education department assured that the bills will be paid in a week's time.
Interestingly, this is also the same school where Tamil superstar KamalHassan was not allowed to enter when he was launching his political party, Makkal Needhi Maiam, and was in Rameshwaram to meet Kalam's family
