Because he did something that was't even possible for almighty Hindu gods.

In one of the instance of Ramayana Ram committed cold blooded murder of a shudra named Shambuka who was performing penance ('Tapasya' in Hindi). The reason being that a shudra doing penance is violation of dharma and the bad karma resulting from it had caused the death of a Brahmin's son (this was the divine logic of a 'god'!).

It is a well known fact that Ram had slain Ravan to save Sita and to purge the evil done by him. Ravan was a Brahmin, the son of Rishi Vaishrava, grandson of Pulatsya. Ram, though God incarnate, was born in a family of Kshatriya. In the caste hierarchy, Ram was of lower rank. As a Brahmin, Ravan was custodian of Brahma-gyan (the knowledge of God). Killing Ravan was the sin of Brahminicide, that Ram had to wash away through penance and prayer.

The point is not whether killing of Shambuka was right or wrong, it is that even God cannot defy the Varna System. That even god is sinning if he is killing an evil Brahman like Ravan.

Ambedkar did not care about a 4000 year old religion or the might of the 330 million gods. He cared for the injustice and atrocities, bordering on slavery and very serious violations of human rights, being done on a substantial population of India which even the gods are still turning a blind eye to.

So what did he do, You ask? He did something that even gods could not do. For Dalits Ambedkar stands above all gods and we will follow him and celebrate his anniversary

Ambedkar was a child when he was travelling in a train. The station master asked him 'where are your parents' he did not knew. The station master asked their religion so he said that they were mahars ( a lower caste religion ). The station master stayed away from them and the also did spoke to them. Ambedkar was the the first from his caste to finish his study and went to England. Later he became buddhist where everybody were treated equal. He encouraged the Dalits to study and later he wrote the democracy of india
