Dr. Babasaheb Bhimrao Ambedkar’s 63rd Mahaparinirvan Diwas will be celebrated on Friday, 6th December 2019. It is an annual observance signifying the day when Babasaheb left for heavenly abode, attaining nirvana, on 6th December 1956.
In 2018, 63rd Mahaparinirvan Diwas (death anniversary of Babasaheb) was observed.
The statues of Dr. Ambedkar are being cleaned and refurbished for the day. Special events will be organized in parks and crossings with the statue of Babasaheb Ambedkar.
Special events are organized at Chaitya Bhoomi in Mumbai which is the resting place of Dr. Ambedkar and also serves as Dr. Bhimrao Ambedkar Mahaparinirvan Memorial. A senior Cabinet Minister of Maharashtra, held a meeting with BMC, BEST and Mumbai Police officials, regarding the arrangements made on Babasaheb’s death anniversary. However, the Chief Minister of Maharashtra, Mr. Uddhav Thackeray was criticized by opposition for not attending the meeting.
The Brihanmumbai Electricity Supply and Transport (BEST) has made special arrangements for the devotees visiting the Chaitya Bhoomi located in Dadar’s Shivaji Park. The annual budget of INR 10 lakh for the arrangements has also been increased to INR 15 Lakh by the BEST. This time 292 additional night lamps will be provided at Chaitya Bhoomi, Shivaji Park and other relevant locations. Two generators will also be placed at Chaitya Bhoomi to ensure that the lights don’t go off.
40 more busses will ply from Dadar to Chaitya Bhoomi and vice versa from December 5 to the evening of December 7, for the convenience of millions of expected devotees.
Thousands of devotees from different corners of India are expected to reach Chaitya Bhoomi to pay their homage to Babasaheb on his death anniversary. Central Indian Railways has launched 12 special trains for the convenient of devotees visiting Chaitya Bhoomi. People had already been coming to the city two or three days in advance to be a part of the observance. Elaborate arrangements for shelter and other amenities have been made for the convenient of visitors
