It was a time when many dalits had a demand for separate electorate . They fond of to believe that political empowerment would resolve their problems of social disabilities . Although , the participation of dalits in the civil disobedience movement was limited , particularly in the Maharashtra and Nagpur Region where their Organisation was quite strong .

1) Dr BR Ambedkar organised the dalits into the depressed class associations in 1930 .
2) He clashed with Mahatma Gandhi at Second Round table Conference by demanding separate electorate for dalits .
3) Dr. Br Ambedkar believed that the separate electorates for dalits would slow down the process of their integration into society .
4) He ultimately accepted the Gandhiji's position and the result was the Ponna Pact of September 1932 .
5) The Ponna Pact of September 1932 gave the depressed class reserved seats in provincial and central legislature councils , but they are voted by the general electorate .
