                                 Unity in Diversity

Our country is a country of diversity of climate, physical features, peoples, ethnicities, religions, languages, cultures, etc. Nearly every region in our vast and varied land has breathtaking natural beauty and enchanting flora and fauna. Tigers and Dolphins, Elephants and Pheasants, majestic Deodar and Orchids all are part of the enchantment of this land. Kaziranga, the wild life sanctuary in Assam, is home of the rare one horned rhino. Arunachal Pradesh had monasteries like Tawang as impressive as Ladakh and like Sikkim which could boast of Pemyengtse and Tashiding attracted a lot of tourists interested in Buddhism.

Each state and region has its own uniqueness. Foreign and local tourists love this diversity of colour, food, vulture, climate, etc. Song and dance and colourful festivals and dazzling handicrafts too cast their spell on tourists both domestic and foreign. Exotic beaches of Goa, backwaters of Kerala, snow-clad mountains of Himachal, sands and lakes of Rajasthan, world heritage sites of Delhi, etc. are the symbols of diversity of our nation.

We grow hearing the famous phrases such as: ‘Unity is strength’, and ‘United we stand but divided we fall.’ It is quite true there is immense power in unity. For example a strand of thread can easily be broken or snapped into shreds; however, if we intertwine many threats into a rope, it becomes very strong. However hard we pull it, it does not break.

Similarly, if a family, organization, team, or country is united, it can face any challenge; it can solve any problem. On the other hand, if there is no unity, it will succumb to the outside pressures. Any team that wins any championship is more united than those teams that don’t win. Wars are won by those nations whose defense forces are more united than those who are defeated.

Indian Freedom Struggle is a wonderful example of the power of unity; Gandhi Ji united all the people and forces of the nation to oust the mighty British out of India. People of different faiths, states, cultures, languages, etc. fought united against the oppressors and finally won.

So, always keep the power of the unity in mind when you launch any mission, movement, or campaign. Unity factor is quite pivotal. Achieve and maintain unity for faster and sure success.

It is the collective responsibility of the government and the people of India to keep the beautiful diversity of our nation bound in the cord of unity intact.

'India: Unity in Diversity'

Good morning Ladies and Gentlemen.  Welcome to the 70th Anniversary of India's being declared a Republic.  It is my pride and honour to be able to speak on my country's Unity in her Diversity.

To begin with I am speaking in English but my mother tongue is Bengali. I also know Hindi as it is our official language. I know Oriya and Assamese as they are quite similar.

In other words I am a multi lingual and so are all of you.  Isn't that unity in diversity?  Further I prefer wearing Salwar Kameez but on occasions I wear a Saree. With friends I were Western outfits.  Isn't that unity in diversity?

In school we celebrate Durga Puja, Diwali, Eid, Christmas, Easter, Nanak Purnima, Buddha Purnima. Isn't that unity in diversity?  Our National Anthem by itself is a reflection of our unity in diversity.  Hence my dear friends India is proud for her Unity in Diversity.

Vande Mataram.

Jai Hind.
