Dr APJ Abdul Kalam was basically a scientist from ISRO who became the 11th president of India between 2002 to 2007 after K R Narayan. He was a devout Muslim who respected other religions equally well. He was a bachelor throughout his lifetime. Dr Kalam was well-known for his simplicity and was respected by the young and elderly alike. He enjoyed interacting with students and saw the future of India through them. The great legend died of sudden cardiac arrest at the age of 83 in Shillong when he was giving a lecture to the students of Indian Institute of Management on the topic Creating a Livable Planet Earth.
