The following qualities tell about the characteristic of the peasant from Bellows for the Bullock. He was poor, hardworking, wise, simple and innocent.

• He was poor. This can be known from the fact that he was unable to buy himself an ox without doing any savings. It is also clear from the facts that he had to look for another farmer's ox to pair up for ploughing his small portion of land.
• He was hardworking as he saved his hard earned money to buy the ox.
• He was simple and innocent. This can be seen from the fact that the peasant was easily tricked by the thugs and his sons and  they managed to con and take his ox for a petty amount.
• He was wise as he was able to teach the thug and his sons a good lesson. He took his revenge cleverly and made the thugs promise to give up thuggery forever.
