as the line drawn perpendicular from the centre to the chord bisects the chord therefore AD = 3cm, and AO = 5 cm which is the radius. AOD is a right angled triangle and OD is the distance between the chord and the centre. As h^2 = p^2 + b^2, therefore, OD = 4cm
