SOLUTION:-

  • In △ PAO,

∠PAO = 90° .....{Tangent theorem}

OA = r = 6cm and OP = 10cm

By pythagoras theorem

OP² = PA² + OA²

10² = PA² + 6²

100 = PA² + 36

100 - 36 = PA²

64 = PA²

PA = 8

BY Tangent Segment Theorem

PA = AB = 8 cm

The length of each tangent is 8cm.

Steps of Construction:-

  1. Construct a circle of given radius with center O.
  2. Take point P in the exterior of the circle from its center as per the value.
  3. Draw a Segment OP. Draw perpendicular bisector of seg OP to get its midpoint M.
  4. Draw a circle with radius OM and Center M.
  5. Name the point of intersection of two circles as A and B.
  6. Draw a line PA and line PB.
