Draw a circle with centre P and radius 4 cm. Take point Q at a distance 7 cm from the centre. Construct tangents to the circle from point Q. Write length of tangent segments. ​

Steps of construction:

Construct a circle of radius 4 cm.

P is a point 7 cm away from the centre of the circle. Join OP.

Draw perpendicular bisector of OP which intersects OP at M.

Taking M as centre and OM as radius draw a circle which intersects the circle

C₁ at A and B.

Join PA and PB.

On measuring, we find,

PA = PB = 7.7 cm

Hence PA and PB are required tangents.
