Draw a circuit diagram for 3 resistors connected of resistance 5 ohms to a battery of 5 volts. Find the total current in the circuit.

V = 5V

They can be connected in series as well as in parallel.

(1) In series

Total resistance R = 5+5+5

= 15 ohm

We know that

V= IR

5 = I 15

I = 5/15

Current ( I )= 1/3 A.

(2) In parallel

1/R = 1/5 + 1/5 + 1/5

R = 5/3 ohm

We know that

V = IR

5 = I 5/3

on dividing both side by 5

1 = I 1/3

I = 3 A
